Serbia’s Homophobe of the Year, according to GayEcho.com, is Bishop Amfilohije Radovic.

The readeers voted overwhelmingly for the turbo-charged nationalist bishop for his lirical banter before and after the Belgrade pride last October.

«A tree that fails to bear fruit is felled and cast into the fire,» said Amfilohije in the warm-up to the pride. After thousands of football hooligans, precision-guided by orgs close to the Serbian Orthodox Church, vandalized Belgrade’s downtown in anger over the event and government’s decision to protect it with thousands of policemen, Amfilohije defended Serbia’s golden young thugs. «You see, violence by godless and perverted people caused this other violence. And they are now asking who is to blame and calling these kids hooligans,» said the bishop.

Due to economically tricky circumstances, GayEcho.com portal was sorry for being unable to furnish the award with a monetary recognition of the winner’s achievement.
